Submit your Tastiest, Spiciest, or Most Unique Chili!
Questions and Answers
Q: What is this all about?
A: This is a casual and fun way to try each other’s chili! Simply let us know that you are bringing a chili to the event (sign up using the link above). On the night of October 25 (6:00-6:45 pm) all the chili’s will be out and ready for eating. If you are bringing a chili, please make sure you have it there before 6:00 am. People will have the opportunity to vote on which chili they think is the Tastiest, Spiciest, and Most Unique!
Q: Does the contest require the submission of a recipe?
A: No, you absolutely do not need to share the recipe. So keep your secret family recipes at home.
Q: Are there official rules or guidelines available?
A: Not particularly – Just bring a pot of chili and people will get little cups to taste-test.
Q: How much chili needs to be made for the contest?
A: Approximately a large crock-pot – Enough for many people to sample in a little cup. People can go back and get a bowl if any is left. The church will also provide extra chili for people to eat for a full meal that night.
Q: What are the criteria that the judges are looking for?
People will vote on the Best Overall (tastiest), Most Unique, and Spiciest.
Q: Can I contribute something else, besides chili?
A: Yes, you can sign up to bring other toppings such as shredded cheese, chopped onion, sour cream, etc. See the sign up link for specifics.
Q: What are the prizes?
A: The best prize is knowing that you won the 2017 La Casa Chili Cook off! Winners will also be given a special award to help them celebrate their victory!
Q: Is the contest actually a sit-down meal for guests to eat, or do guests simply walk around taste testing all the chili entries?
A: It is a part of our regular Wednesday night dinners at church (we have weekly dinners – October 25 will be chili!). People are encouraged to come and try the various submissions AND they are also encouraged to make a full meal out of it by having a seat at tables for dinner. The church is providing extra chili to make sure that there is enough for everyone to enjoy a full meal.
